Sous Chef

I have one darling little chef in training. Almost every night he accompanies me on the counter as we make dinner. He tastes as we go ensuring all of the ingredients are to his liking.



Since he loves to help cook we often find ourselves baking in the afternoons too. You know, if the sweet tooth starts aching. He has already figured out how to clean the mixer by tasting.

Funny thing is that these were all taken on different days, but his wardrobe or lack-there-of is the same.



I have to be careful when cooking broccoli because it often sneaks away. He loves raw broccoli. Not sure if it's because he loves the taste or just thinks it's fun to eat.

My hope is that he loves being my little sous chef for years to come!

Cookies

G and I had the urge to bake this weekend, so we tried this pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe that had been haunting me since the moment I saw it. Although we may be a little early for the chefs hat and apron, I do love having a little kitchen helper. G has become a pro at watching dinner cook in the over, stirring when appropriate and always wanting to be held so he can see what I'm cooking. I think his favorite job is being my taste tester.

And if you were wondering the cookies are delicious! We made two small substitutions dark chocolate chips in the cookies and almond extract instead of vanilla in the icing. All the Newton's gave them two thumbs up!

Pardon the Interruption

Please excuse this break from our regularly scheduled adorable baby sighting, but I just have to share.

Now how in all of my culinary research I have missed this woman is beyond me, but I would like to introduce the Pioneer Woman. To say I am in LOVE is to put it mildly! I stumbled upon her website a few weeks ago, I know I am probably the last one on earth, and it was love at first sight. It is loaded with recipes, mouth watering pictures for every step, and commentary that will have you laughing. My first attempt was her Grilled Ribeye with Onion Blue Cheese Sauce. Really y’all I about died. It was that good! In just a few short weeks since that amazing evening, I have made her Lasagna, Enchiladas, Chicken Strips, Crash Hot Potatoes (twice) and tonight I am mixing up my version of Chicken Spaghetti with hers. All recipes have been still thinking about it the next day good! The lasagna even got approval from my Italian hubby who frowns at the thought of anyone but his mother’s lasagna.
