Mr. Personality

Oh, How this boy makes my heart happy! Here are a few of the things he has been doing lately that give him so much personality.

Eating
After every bite he feels the need to put his hand/bib in his mouth. Like so...

What a mess! It ends up in his eye brows, but he is enjoying each and every meal.

Rocking
His new favorite trick in the glider - backbends. He is usually trying to get a glimpse of what Dad is up to.

Just a Cold
You might notice in some of the pictures he has scratches on his nose. Poor guy has been suffering from his first cold and keeps scratching at his nose, since he doesn't know how to find relief. To keep the bleeding to a minimum we have had to resort to this.

Noise
He talks and talks all day long, sometimes even moving his mouth like he is talking without making a noise. He says hi and the and da da da. Since he is only 6 months old none of these sounds/words have any context, but they seem to be his favorite combinations. And then there is the shrieking, squeaking, grunting, coughing combos. It is too funny! You just have to hear it for yourself.

Grunting contests have become a regular occurence. He brings so much joy!

On the move

On my 1/2 post I made a comment about our little mover. Although crawling is a ways off (I think and hope!) he sure can get around. The evidence...

Look at me, Mom!

To the Park

We have been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather this week with some time outdoors. G is a huge fan of the outdoors, but we have been staying pretty cooped up from the cold. This week the warmth has come back and we are taking advantage. Rocking out on the porch and walking to the park. We tried out the swings for the first time and they were a hit! I can't wait until this weather is here to stay for a while, so that we can do this daily.

1/2

He's a 1/2. That is our new response to the constant "How old is he?". Our little boy has become loads of fun. He is enjoying so much these days, from trying new foods, to jumping in his bouncer, all kinds of new sounds, practicing sitting and rolling around with ease. He has bulked up to 17 pounds and grown over 7 inches since he was born. Matt and I laugh about how proud we are of him even though he is just a baby. The gushing starts early.

As you can see, taking pictures is getting tricky with our little mover.

Pilot in Training

2010 has been busy and full of new experiences for us already! Matt was off to his week of skiing and red dirt country music in Steamboat, CO last week, so G and I took the opportunity to go visit the Ortiz family in Albuquerque, NM. It was G's first time on a plane and he was excellent! I had been anxiously awaiting the flight with dreams of being booed off the plane for having the baby that wouldn't stop crying. Luckily, on the way there we were accompanied by Emily and Jamison, two expert flyers.
Although we both missed Dad enormously, it was made much easier by the company in New Mexico. Emily and I have been friends since high school but have lived apart ever since, so it is always a treat when we get to spend time together. The moments when our children are playing together (well as much as a 6 month old can play) are cherished. I look forward to many more trips and visits as they grow! Or if my powers of persuasion get stronger maybe they will move back to Texas one day. Wouldn't that be a treat!
It was a relaxing trip with nothing on the agenda except for good food and good friends. We had a dance party, played with Beau the boston and snuggled. I got to enjoy my all time favorite breakfast burritos twice! I am still working on a way to transport a suitcase full to Texas successfully.

The flight home was just me and G. Again, I was nervous about the flight, but hopeful that it would be similar to the first one. G fell asleep while we were boarding and slept until our drinks arrived! Oh, I was thankful! When he woke up he was delighted to see the two cute Alabama students who were sitting next to us. This was his hardest flirting session to date. He smiled and cooed between ducking his head into my shoulder. Only to repeat over and over again. They were smitten! After two successful flights it looks like we might just have a pilot in training.
It made for a memorable yet exhausting week, so as I post they rest

Happy New Year

Having G in our lives has created all kinds of firsts for our family. New Years Eve was just another example. We stayed in! For those of you who know Matt well know that he is an incredibly social person. When I heard him say "I just want to stay in" I almost passed out. Really! It took me a moment to recover. He is never the one to pass up any opportunity to go out and be with friends, even if it means a packed and inconvenient schedule. He will make the sacrifice. Turns out I might have made a convert out of him. Okay, that might just be just be wishful thinking. He did say it was the best New Years Eve ever. We made steaks and Papa came over for dinner, then we stayed up playing cards and drinking champagne. And just like every good party we even had a bouncer!
